Scars

Scars can form as a result of the body’s healing process after damage due to abrasion, acne, burns and/or surgery. Depending on the location and severity of scars, it can lead to comprised function (elasticity in the skin is reduced in scarred areas ), and cosmetic concerns. Conventional treatments include plastic surgery and laser therapy. These are often expensive and can even cause new scar formation.

At the Marsden Centre, an integrative approach is taken to suit each client’s health and cosmetic needs. Prevention of scar formation would be first step to take. in cases of planned surgery, for example, supplementation with nutrients that would help with tissue and wound healing or even vitamin/mineral infusions prior to and after surgery can be greatly helpful.  In cases where scar tissue has already formed, natural remedies such as bromelain that can help to break down scar tissue may be recommended. At the same time,  a well-balanced diet and even nutraceutical supplementation such as zinc and vitamin C to ensure adequate nutrition for optimal skin regeneration may be necessary. Lastly, Acupuncture is another effective option to help with the reduction in severity of already-formed scars by causing microscopic injury to the area, thereby stimulating skin regeneration in the area to replace the existing scar tissue.
